Now that the weather is finally warm and spring-y, I finished my winter coat! Yay for good timing!
I used the pattern Simplicity 1254 which was designed by Leanne Marshall - who is obviously the winner of some Project Runway season and not a singer which I kind of thought first. The more you know...!
Anyway. I sewing love coat and jackets! The fabrics are generally nice to sew, wool camouflages little sewing mistakes when you steam it into submission and they generally have sleeves. I love setting in sleeves! For this coat I even did some more of the dreaded hand sewing. I made invisible seams on the sleeves and hem:
And I made invisible stiches to fixate the overlap of the zipper:
I love how simple this makes the coat look. It is just fabric and a giant collar, but has nice details like pockets:
The lining is very warm and comfortable but actually too warm now that spring arrived. A bummer, but as the Starks say "Winter is coming"!
Sewing pattern review:
I love it! It is a coat pattern which looks and fits great. It is rather simple but the large collar adds so much interes! The only changes I made was to interline the collar with my quilted lining for a little more volume and hand stitching the zipper cover for a more straight look. Otherwise, I can only recommend this!
