Fabric balance sheet

Natron -  sewing godess and Co-founder of my favourite sewing page- started a nifty feature where we should use the last day of the month to talk about incoming and outgoing fabrics. Well, this month's numbers don't look that good for me:

  • 1 yard black brocade
  • 1 yard white hole fabric
  • 4m black heavy cotton
  • 4m black thin polycotton
  • 1m black velvet
  • 2m thin shiny poly-whatever
  • 2m pinstripe wool stretch
total damage: ~15m fabric

Outgoing (only counting finished projects):
  • 1.5m black and pink stripey cotton (gay pirate bloomers)
  • 1.5m silver plissé (steampunk skirt)
  • 2m black tafeta (steampunk skirt)
  • 5m flower cotton (hoop skirt, needs stronger steel but otherwise done)
to the rescue: ~10m fabric

15m - 10m = 5 m fabric added to my stash this month

Like Natron, I will add a graph to my sidebar...

I'm not addicted, I'm not addicted, I'm not....

Since Neisella already posted her haul and mentioned I also bought some stuff, I can as well show it here on my blog. The shop we went to was some kind of secret shopping tip. They don't do any advertising, the adress is handed mouth to mouth (or on the internet, if you know the right people like me! ^^). It is a den behind Rossman in Münster Wolbeck (Hiltruper Str. 22, 48167 Münster, Germany) filled to the brim with fabric and notions. Fabrics are 2-3 Euros per m or coupon, if you buy more you get rebates. I highly recommend going there but:
  •  it is not heated, so wear gloves (maybe without fingertips to feel the fabrics) and warm shoes
  • you might need a measuring tape to make sure your coupon is enough for a garment
  • bring some bags, the only offer ones without handle
  • and don't be surprised by the look of the den. In the beginiing I thought we were wrong...
Total damage was only 24 Euros, so I actually don't feel that bad about going shopping for more black fabrics!

PVC piping, Gütermann thread for 1 Euro per roll, invisible zips and buttons
Button close up - 10 of the white ones, 6 of the small glittery ones and 12 (wanted 10, wasn't able to count) black ones

from left to right - heavy black stretch stuff for BF's WGT outfit, some shiny thin polystuff and velvet

Pinstripe with wool content and stretch, medium weight polycotton stretch

Tagged by Paisleystern (german only)

Paisleystern fragt und ich antworte:

1) Stadtkind oder Landei?
Definitiv Stadtkind.

Sunday cake - brownie cake

Actually, more like a brownie prepared in a cake tin and baked maybe one minute too long...

This nasty little bugger contains about 120g chocolate and 50g butter (whole cake, not this piece though). Not very diet friendly, right? But I made good use of the leftover filling for my maccarones which had a second life in this wonderful yummi cake. It would be even better had I not let it stay a minute too long in the oven. But it is still very good!

Week in review 4/2012

Got to know this from a member of my RPG: "Tetris title" by Powerglove. A speedmetal band playing old videogame intros? Loving it!

"Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" by J.K. Rowling and "Drachenfeuer" (Dragon's fire)by Wolfgang Hohlbein. You can not read too many Hohlbein's in a row because of the similarities, but once in while they are pretty nice!

Fishcurry. Monkfish, zucchini, scallions, green curry paste and coconut milk. Easy, yummi, will be cooked again!

Just because you have a bad temper dosen't neccessarily mean I keep calm all the time!

Steampunk ensemble (still working on it... But I'm mostly done!)

Sunday cake - lemon muffins again!

- this post was sceduled to be posted last sunday when I was out and about, but somehow blogger decided against it. Sorry I didn't notice until now!-

During my meetups with my RPG group I told them about my habit to bake every weekend. Of course they were more than willing to try anything yummi I would bring! So this saturday I made a batch of lemon muffins.

To my defence for preparing the same old recipe again and again - they are really tasty, my boyfriend doesn't feel left out because he likes them as well and I thought something like this would be perfect for handing out.

Week in review 3/2012

Vapuru - Yonca Evcimik
I heard this song years ago (according to the date of the video it was 1994, I was 10 then! o.o) while a family holiday in Turkey and listened to it again every evening this week! I simply could not get it out of my head...

"Harry Potter and the Philospher's stone" by J.K. Rowling. I found some pics ont he internet and decided to re-read all 7 novels.

Gnocchi cheese casserole with galzed onions

Finally, I hope he likes it! (handed my paper draft to my boss)

Sunday cake - Macarones take 2

I tried making macarones again, this time with more success. They dried for 60 minutes and had a beautiful ruffle (no, I'm not making this up: The lower part where they rise is called ruffle). The taste was great again, but I think I should try other colours. The red food colour makes them look fleshy - like salmon- which I didn't like. Flavour was vnilla again, with dark chocolate ganache for filling.

Week in review 2/2012

"Minne" by Subway to Sally

Actually an audio book which I listen to while sewing: Greek heroic sages (I'm currently finishing Herakles/Hercules)

Popcorn (from the cinema, i watched "Ziemlich beste Freunde" - highly recommended!)

Hopefully, tow years of work will pay of!

Burda Style 2/2012

This issue surprised me. I liked a lot of patterns (I could have chosen more than 3, unlike the last issues were I sometimes struggled to find three pretty patterns) and had a hard time to find bad ones. Fortunately, Burda never lets me down! ;)

Surpirsingly, I chose 3 dress patterns for my top three! I instantly fell in love with the asia inspired collection. Despite knowing that Qipao (traditional chinese dresses with the front neck closure) look best on women with smaller chest, I have one on my to sew list... - like forever. So I might buy this issue to try sewing the pattern I liked best!
I also love the idea of a contrast trim used in the bronze pattern, I think this is a very modern take on a traditional pattern.
The only pattern not included in the asia collection is the wrap dress on the right. Also very clean and modern looking, so this will definetly be wearable in the office as well...

As I said before, I struggled finding bad patterns. My third place goes to a skirt that I only find impractical but not particularly ugly. Long wrap skirts tend to split open which is never a good idea in cold winter weather. I'm also not quite happy with the paperbag waistband as they prevent the skirt from being worn under pullovers.
The second worst is a dress from the pregnancy collection. I know pregnant women have a big belly (and they better have, a baby needs space!), but they should never be forced to wear a potato bag like this! In the issue, Burda includes a lot of flattering cuts and comfy jerseys, so please choose an alternative pattern!
The worst pattern in my eyes is this pants pattern. They might be cute lounge pants, but I would not want to be cought dead outside in one of these! Also, the fabric used for this kind of pants is nowhere near wearable outside this season. Maybe Burda mixed up and put a pyjamas pattern from last issue in this one?

Sewing haul

As most other sewers I invested my christmas money into sewing related stuff. I ordered some patterns and fabrics from overseas (Sorry German fabric shops, but if I get cooler fabric from the USA for less money - including shipping!-, do you really think I shop here?!)! And how could I possibly miss a 99 cent sale for  simplicity patterns, when they have the most amazing costume patterns?

The fabrics I got are a stretchy white fabric with lots of organic looking holes (1m):

And a jaquard with a cross pattern in black (1m):

The list of patterns I bought in the super sale at sewingpatterns.com is much longer:

Steampunk pattern... I have no idea when to wear this, but it's soooo pretty!
For my inner goth child
In case I really ever reproduce the geisha collection from Lip Service
Well, it was 99 cent and I like the skirt, okay?!
Belly dancing pattern for my mum
for the boyfriend, he wants something matching my WGT outfits
I could not decide between the two patterns for the BF, so I got both! ;)
I totally regret that I did not get this one when it was still available. Does anyone have a source for me?

Sunday cake - Kinder mini cake

Today was the first quiet day this weekend. Although I originally planned to go to the Unperfekthaus and meet Charly at the Kreativflohmarkt, I decided to stay at home and relax a bit. Friday night was great: Partying with Meara and Neisella, meeting old friends and dancing the night away! Yesterday I had an evening with friends playing DSA (an role playing game) and came back around midnight. So today I baked a cake and got some sewing done...

This is my other mini cake form: It's a bundt cake/ springfrom. The cake I made is vanilla sponge with chunks of Kinder chocolate. My boyfriend loves Kinder chocolate and got a lot of it for christmas. But if the chocolate is stored too warm, he says it looses it's taste. So I got two packages for backing...
