Week in Review 30/2016

What did I see?
Stones. Does anyone else have a strange fascination with them? I used to collect them as a child and had many an amethyst and onyx when I reached puberty. I still collect a rock from every place I visit, but my collection has not grown as much as in the first years. Why all this talk about stones? Well, Hirotoshi Ito makes amazing and creepy stone art.

What did I listen to?
[X]-RX - Virus Infect

What did I ask myself?
IS this the right flat?

What did I read?
"Noah" by Sebastian Fitzek. Creepy and with many twist, a story about a man who lost his memory, a virus which infects many people, a reporter who finds herself pregnant in a conspiracy and a killer who is infected with said virus. Very good read, kept me on the edge and made it hard to put the book down!

What did I work on?
Another jumpsuit

I was happy about...
Last weekend with Amphi! So many good times were had!

I was annoyed about...
Having to visit a church wedding tomorrow. I knw better ways to spend my time and we are not even invited to the party afterwards...

I bought...
A patter for a dress. I have a deal with myself that I'm only allowed to buy new patterns if I walk at least 10000 steps everyday. Not so hard, especially when you play Pokemon Go!

Polka-dotted Ladyskater

I made another thing.

No really, during my little blog pause (which was spent hurriedly sewing a dress for the historical pciknick Jardin de Belle Epoque on Friday) I also made some procrastination dresses. Today I can show you one of these in-between makes. It is again the Ladyskater pattern by KitschyKoo.

The back of the skirt had to be pieced because I only had 1.5 m x 1.5 m which is not much even when you make short sleeves.

 photo IMG_7382_zpsyszsbodr.jpg

I bought the polka dotted jersey on the fabric market in Mannheim this year. I should have kept in mind that buying cheap sometimes doesn't pay of because the fabric is already looking rather used after only two washes. You can see it a bit in the detail picture I made of the sleeve and neck.

The neck binding is again the fake bias while the sleeves and skirt hems are small rolled hems made with a serger. I used white thread mainly for one reason - I rethreaded my serger for the historical stuff and was too lazy to go back to black. Well, I will need to soon!

Week in Review 29/2016

What did I see?
This week I saw something which I have trouble to describe. Are these paintings? Or digital art? The sometimes look like collages with old photos. Anyway, however he does this; Yarolsav Gerzhedovich's art is amazing!

What did I listen to?
[X]-RX - kein Herz - but live because I was on Amphi!

What did I ask myself?
Can I finish my dress in time?

What did I read?
Freakoniomics by S.D. Levitt and S.J. Dubner. A book about economic reasons for crimes. Sounds boring? It is quite a fun read! I found it for free in the giveaway shelf and enjoy it rather much...

What did I work on?
A dress for the historical picknick before the Amphi festival. I hate how I always procrastinate and then have to hurry last minute... Argh!

I was happy about...
Seeing my boyfriend for 4 days in a row. And meeting friends on the Amphi festival. And wearing pretty dresses!

I was annoyed about...
The heat was so bad. And I dressed down. Very much down. But who cares? I was dancing and ejoying music!

I bought...
Nothing. Only food!

Black Simplicity 2369 Shirt

Besides all the new stuff I sew, it is also fun to go back to old patterns again. And do not fear, this time it is not another waterfall shirt! I reused Simplicity 2369 this time and made a shirt from leftover jersey from the Maybachufer market. The rest was used for the Simplicity 3775 dress so I actually got 2 pieces out of fabric for 6 Euros! Love a good bargain!

The pattern fits well as it did last time and I love how it just is like a simple t-shirt with a little detail. And black makes it so versatile! This time I didn't use fake bias tape for the hems, but turned the fabric and used a slightly stretchy decorative stitch:

Deer&Doe Anemone skirt

Right in my current colour scheme (can one say that when the colour scheme is monochromatic?!) is another skirt I made! It is the long version of the Anemone skirt by Deer & Doe. The closure is an invisible zipper and the seam is also invisible and hand sewn. Grey skirt, invisble everything - Boy, am I exciting! ^^

 photo IMG_7341_zpsfzl6kb2d.jpg

The lining is teal viscose something and rather warm, which is unfortunate if you want to wear a skirt in summer as well! I used a decorative stitch for hemming the lining as part of the "pretty insides" that everyone seems to be doing...

Sewing pattern review
The pattern runs a tiny bit small, so you should make a musselin before cutting your real fabric. As I'm short torso-ed, I will shorten the length for my next skirt from this pattern. I might also make it a wee bit longer because the pattern is designed for 1,68m and I'm 1,74m. But the pieces match really well and the finished skirt looks great!
