Week in Review 44/2015

What did I see?
I'm always on the hunt for amazing fabrics, but I guess the ones that Rami Kadi used for his Fall/Winter 2016 couture are not available on the free market... Insects and stripes painted on black in UV reactive colours? Count me in!

What did I listen to?
Nightwish - Sleeping Sun. Back when Nightwish still had Tarja Turunen and all was good!

What did I ask myself?
How long will this haunt me?

What did I read?
Rejections by other scientists. Where enticing, let me tell you...

What did I work on?
Two secret projects to be revealed next month. And a dress for my mum which she took without finishing and taking proper pictures. But it looked good aftersome changes to the pattern! Trust me!

I was happy about...
Having my mum over for some days this week. We had lots of fun!

I was annoyed about...
Having to rerite a less than stellar paper. Bummer.

I bought...
Fabric. Oh, did I mention I went to the fabric market yet again? *angelic smile*

Week in Review 43/2015

What did I see?
With the new movie almost at our doors, Star Wars is getting more recognition in the mainstream as well. I never realised how amazing a crossover of Winnie the Pooh and Star Wars would be. Wookie the Pooh? Christopher Solo? Count me in! James Hance invented and painted them in a very cute way:

What did I listen to?
Type O Negative - October Rust - I love deep male voices and Type O just feels like fall to me...

What did I ask myself?
Is all that fuzz really worth it?

What did I read?
La Mécanique du Coeur by Mathias Malzieu. Of course not in French (I can't say more than "Je ne peux parler francais") but I liked it very much!

What did I work on?
Nothing much, I didn't have much free time this week.

I was happy about...
Having my mum over next week!

I was annoyed about...
Having too little time to prepare anything good -.-

I bought...
A Bahncard and several train tickets.

By the Sea - Silk corset

I already presented to you the ingredients for the corset:

 photo IMG_7096_zpscjw1zegv.jpg

And I told you about my little fail:

 photo IMG_7129_zpsljodaphh.jpg

Which I have repaired and finally taken pictures on me. With my bath towel on my still wet hair. I have a life outside my blog, so I think you will have to deal with it, sorry!

 photo IMG_7136_zpsiaieju99.jpg

 photo IMG_7134_zpsmazz2pi9.jpg

Just to show you the eyelet in all their glory:

 photo IMG_7133_zpsqggokc2w.jpg

As I said before, I am pretty sure that the corset is too large. It closes fully and the fabrics tend to stretch a bit over time. So I might have to remake it. Bummer!

Week in Review 42/2015

What did I see?
This week I saw some amazing creativity in the quarry art of Sean Yoro. Who would have thought that painted bathing ladies could look so eerily realistic?

What did I listen to?
LMFAO - Sorry for Party Rocking. Nothing better at the gym than a good party song!

What did I ask myself?
Oh, boy. Why am I stressed that easily?

What did I read?
My Swedish book to learn for my course! ^^

What did I work on?
Nothing much, just a little fabric cutting...

I was happy about...
Meeting great people in my Swedish lessons. These might be Heidelberg friends!

I was annoyed about...
Coming home late and not having any mental capacities left over for other stuff.

I bought...
Nothing. For a change.

The Professor's Homework Assignment: What I Love About this Time of Year

Your assignment is to show us what you love about this time of year!

Remember, you can interpret my homework assignment themes anyway you want. Want to show us some of the crafting you've been doing? Or maybe art work or writing? Go for it! How about some nice outfit posts brimming with warm, wooly sweaters or layers of velvet? Or maybe your favorite thing about this time of year is this little, weird holiday ... what's it called? HALLOWEEN! WAHOO! Maybe cooking is more your thing? Show us some of the stews or soups you've been making or pies and cakes you've been baking. My Southen Hemisphere friends, it's Spring down under ... what do you love about this time of year? Are you planning your gardens? Buying seeds?
Oh, how I can I count the ways that I love beautiful fall? I was actually born in fall, so I think this somehow primed me to love the colder climate, the fresh air and wind! I love how the leaves turn beautiful colours, how they tumble from the trees and dance with the wind until they land on the ground! I love to rustle trhough fallen leaves and the crunchy sound that makes!

I love the rainy days where it is cold outside and getting dark soon! I love seeing cities at night with all the beautiful lights! And I love to get comfy on the couch or in bed, with a good big book and a pot of hot chocolate...

And most of all I love the Halloween season, where I can get my hands on creepy decor, try out different masks and make up and sew or wear costumes much to my liking... I love fall, simple as that.

Tattoo

I recently noticed that I forgot to show off my tattoo which already graces my back since more than a year:

 photo IMG_7113_zpsqbdcdd9x.jpg

Sorry for the bad picture, but it is kind of hard to take a picture of your own back. It shows DNA rather symbolized and I still love it to pieces!

Week in Review 41/2015

What did I see?
Another totally misrepresented biological entity are funghi. I love them! There are many creepy but cute funghi with special abilities like mind control or organization of single cell organisms into a multicellular being! And some of them look really pretty, like these Australian funghi Photographed by Steve Axford:

What did I listen to?
A favourite song of Nanny Ogg - The hedgehog can never be buggered at all... ;)

What did I ask myself?
How did this week slip through my fingers so quickly? oO'

What did I read?
A paper about penile cancer. With pictures. This kinda cought me by suprise, you know?!

What did I work on?
Repairing the sh*t I f*cked up last week...

I was happy about...
Having my boyfriend here, spending money on fabric and having great american breakfast. Hmmm, pancakes with maple syrup!

I was annoyed about...
Having a hole in my favourite pair of pants. And since the hole is on my thigh, repairing will only last so long...

I bought...
Fabrics. For me, for my boyfriend and for special occasions.

Halloween Tag

The lovely Madame Mari Mortem tagged me to answer some Halloween questions and I obey her every wish:

1. Favorite Halloween song?
The Halloween Song from Nightmare before Christmas of course!

2. Witch or Vampire
I once read in a book a phrase which really stuck with me: "How do you want to be immortal if you feel bored on a rainy sunday already?" Since I still feel bored rather easily, I'd very much prefer tp be a witch! Also, they are my favourite characters in Terry Pratchett's books! I'd make a great Nanny Ogg! ^^

3. Favorite thing about Halloween
I love fall; it is my favourite season! I love many spooky things and a holiday for creepy stuff which is also in my favourite season is great, no?

4. Halloween party or scary movie marathon?
I would love to combine both: Dress up, dance and later retire on the couch and watch scary movies. I may be jumpy but I love both trashy and spooky horror movies!

5. Skeletons or Zombies?
Since I assume that zombies stink rotten, I prefer clean skeletons. Also, they are.much less infective!

6. Favorite Halloween candy?
Germany has none of the many candies that US children get during Halloween. I tried candy corn once, but it was too sweet for me. So I'll stick with creepy looking German candy like white mice or gummy worms!

7. Favorite Halloween movie?
Annything Tim Burton! But like Mary I loved Hocus Pocus, Halloween Town and Ginger Snaps!

8. Favorite Halloween costume?
I once was a damned good medusa, a creepy maid and a Nazghul. For the next occasion I might make a Star Trek Zombie...

9. Favorite Halloween store?
Hands down TK Maxx. I never found high quality Halloween stuff in Germany elsewhere. Or the allmighty interwebs...

10. Jack-o-lanterns, yes or no?
Why yes, and make some soup from the innards!

11. Bats or Black Cats?
I owned a black cat named Mo some timw ago and loved him dearly. He died of old age years ago, but still is in my heart and memory! So I might be biased here... :) Nut I also lovr bats and have seen some during dusk here in Heidelberg!
Like Madame Mari Mortem,  I'm terrified of anything flying. Which is why I like bats, but not too close to my head!

12. Is Halloween your favorite holiday?
Oh, I like all of them and have a hard time deciding on a favourite. But for dressing up and spooky decorations, Halloween scores high on top!

13. Pumpkin spice latte or hot chocolate?
This one is easy: I like neither coffee nor cinnamon, so hot chocolate it is!

I will tag noone im particular, but if you feel interested: Go ahead and take the spooky querry!

By the Sea - Corset fail

The corset is done! My amazing boyfriend cut the steel, everything inserted just fine. I finished the bias tape and inserted the eyelets. It is even fitting me well (although it could have been a little smaller round the waist):

 photo IMG_7128_zpshdlxdhi9.jpg

Even the insides are really pretty if I might say so myself:

 photo IMG_7131_zpsi82wumoa.jpg

There is just one minor drawback which let me furiously throw the poor corset against a wall...

 photo IMG_7129_zpsljodaphh.jpg

One side has an eyelet more than the other... I should have noticed when I thought "Oh weird, I have 5 eyelets left over. Maybe the factory put one more in?". I should have compared the length when I marked the eyelet positions. Shoulda, woulda...

And the worst is, this is already the second time this mistake happens! -.-''' Now I will remove the bias tape, shorten the steel, see how I can fix the length and redo it all again. Bummer!

Restyle haul - Strega necklaces

When Restyle published their new collection of jewelry (which was rather inspired by strega fashion and hipster goth), I instantly fell for it. And I fell hard. It took less than a day until I ordered two necklaces:

 photo IMG_7110_zpsewnff5bt.jpg

 photo IMG_7111_zps3lcrklap.jpg

You already saw this necklace in my last outfit post. It is really cool, I love the way it glamours up simple black jersey dresses!

 photo IMG_7109_zpsvidlkgal.jpg

I also got this Ouija inspired necklace which is rather hipster. But I still like it and have worn it to several meetings. Again, it looks great against simple black...

That's it! Have you caved and got something from the new collection?

Week in Review 40/2015

What did I see?
Although we all love cute animals, most of them are misrepresented. When we see pretty pictures of cats on the internet, no one likes to think they are also ferocious hunters. Hence my biologist heart took a leap when I saw these:

What did I listen to?
And One - So klingt Liebe

What did I ask myself?
Is there anything white? Or is everything greyscale?

What did I read?
A lot about soap nuts! ^^

What did I work on?
A corset. Finally done!

I was happy about...
How my colleagues care about me. And getting to know new people!

I was annoyed about...
Eating so much candy. And my lack of motivation

I bought...
A candle? With Halloween Decor? *meep*
