CorpGoth Status Report - Summer in the Office

Since it is getting hot and hotter, Trystan of CorpGoth asked us about how we cope with the heat in our offices:

Subject: What does a working goth do when it's hot outside? Especially if the office AC is freezing? Or maybe you work in a typically humid environment that would melt makeup? Share your strategies for keeping cool while getting the job done.

I'm kind of in a special place: In Germany, we don't usually cool down our offices with ACs as much as in the US. My office actually has no AC, but I have the luxury of being alone in an office with a balcony, so I tend to open the door and let a light breeze cool me. In case of severe heat, I bring out a large bowl and rest my feet in cold water while drinking cold tea or fruit juices:

On the other hand I work in the lab where I have to wear long pants and closed shoes (mandatory for security). So I quickly change before I start working as a mad scientist with stuff I have in my locker. This means old but practical shoes and long linen or cotton pants, as there is AC in the lab, but the rooms still are warmer than usual in summer (23-25°C instead of 20°C in winter). I also take off my labcoat as soon as I can! ^^

That bowl with cold water is genius!

Ok, I think I would actually enjoy going into the office if I had a balcony! And a footbath sounds like such a pleasant way to cool down, good for you :)

@ Jade: It serves me well, my trusty bowl! ;)

@ Trystan L Bass: It's not always that great - when the weather is nice I would prefer to stay outside, but can't because of work. But sometimes I read papers outside...

The balcony sounds very nice! I miss working in a lab. What did you study for your doctorate?

@ Vulcan_Butterfly: I'm a biologist specialised in human genetics. What did you do in the lab?
