On saturday I went to the city to buy a gift for BF's grandpa (who went 77 yesterday!) and while I was there I could not resist the siren call of the fabric shops... I brought home these beautiful fabrics to make trousers from...

Wait a minute, pants from this ugly white cotton with blue and green dots? No way! These were my childhodd curtains and I will reuse them to make a mockup version of the pants first. I learned the hard way that Burda has significant fitting issues when used on my body...

So I copied the pattern - which btw is the task I hate most in the world- and this time it did not work without some sacrifice...

No sewers were harmed, I just had no tissue to copy the pattern and the red Edding distributed equally along my cloth, hands and the parchment paper I used... And now I proudly present me, taking pictures in our hallway of myself in a very wonderful shorts version:

The fit is okay, so now I can start the real deal...

Healthy living...

To show everyone that I'm not becoming one of those boring "healthy living and preaching" woman, let me present some pictures of todays dinner:

While my boyfriend prefers his burgers meaty, I get vegetarian patties from Lidl (which are delicous and therefore highly recommended!).

In addition we can choose from different sauces, vegetables and toppings like cheese and onions.

And last but not least: Corn on the cob! Yummi!

I'm blue, dabadee...

I started this dress almost instantly after finishing the ruffly blouse, because the fabric is a dream to work with. It's smooth, doesn't wrinkle, the colours are pretty and it stretches a little. If it weren't from, Iwould consider ordering more...

The pattern is New Look 6457, view E. I added the ruffle in inspiration from the selfish seamstress who invented the infamous coffee date dress. I really love the pattern, but I somehow hate to print and align/glue at home patterns, so therefore I used it as inspiration... I think about redoing the ruffle, my boyfriend finds it arkward and I'm not that happy with it either. Maybe I will just print out the ruffle! ;)

Another problem with this dress is that it fits to snuggly. I sewed the seam allowances very generous, so I would be able to add more width, but on the other hand since I'm running now and started pilates and boxing classes, it might be a matter of time until it fits. It closes now, but I could use two more cm... What do you think? Redo it now and probably again in some weeks, or wait until I fit in?

Couch potato

Some weeks ago, I joined C25K. This is in no way a horrible sect or a mysterious science gang who plans to take over the world - what a pity! ^^ - but rather a plan to get fit. The full name is "couch to 5 k running" which translates into a program that offers a plan and some music to get from being a couch potato to running a 5 km run. And I participate in it. On the pictures above you can see parts of my trail, I prefer running outside no matter what weather we have to any running mill... Sorry, *wollmaus*!

Currently I'm running in week 3, but today was the first time I was not able to finish the run. Might be related to having my first pilates class since a year yesterday... My muscles have no tone at all right now! I'm feeling like a sack of water...

So, if you are also interested in getting fit(ter), like smashy music for movement and have spare 30 minutes 3 times a week, why not joining in?

Monday Money round 3

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on sports clothes, as I needed new running pants and some shirts.

2. Today I feel anxious towards money, as I don't know how much I want to spent during my Ireland holidays.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free/inexpensive thing I did last week that made me happy was getting my lazy a*s to sports!

4. I will consider this week a success if I don't loose my mind about all the work and survive until my girlfriend gathering on friday.

5. The next trip I have planned will be on friday for a potluck with my girls.

As prove that I finish what I start, even if my life is seriously lacking spare time for sewing at the moment, I hereby present:

The purple ruffly blouse!

The pattern was McCall's M5929, the only change I made was to ruffle a little more because my belly is big enough without an overpronouncing fluff in front! ^^ Very special about this blouse are the buttons, which were a gift from the amazing Neisella, who is more creative in her little finger the I will ever be. And I used my foot for rolled hemming the first time with amazing results: Check out this closeup!

This also has more colour accuracy - when I'm coming home the lighting is lacking! I really need to stick more to normal working hours...

Monday Money round 2

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on M'era Luna.

2. Today I feel pretty good towards money.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free/inexpensive thing I did last week that made me happy was running. It makes me feel free and calm (once I get going!)

4. I will consider this week a success if I get my project at work done.

5. One movie that always me think of the summer is "Fall from innocence - the body". The title is "Sommer mit einer Leiche" (summer with a corpse in german)...

Ruffling to the top

Here is what I spent my weekend with:

I ate a lot of great food

Had time for my pets again after two weekends of being out of town

And got some sewing done! I found a nice blouse in the Strauss catalogue, the ruffly one on page 7 (sorry, can´t link the picture). But then I thought "Wait a second before you buy, you havea pattern like this at home and some nice fabrics that are waiting to be sewn", so I planned and already started the blouse:

The fabric is from my last order from, were I will never order again after their great service... I was a happy customer for years, but after not informing me for 2 weeks that due to a mistake the fabric I ordered was no longer available (and another one from the order was sold out during the 2 weeks!), I don't think I have to rely on them. There are plenty of other fabric shop online!

Burda Style 09/2010

Has a month already passed since the last review? It seems that time flies by... Let's go on to the good, the bad and the ugly! ^^

So, what did I like? Fortunately, only one of the patterns I like is plusmode and therefore takes a lot of changes until it would fit; it won bronze. A cute dress, work appropriate with some fancy details. I can also imagine easily that it willhide some bulbs in case you have them. So, a winner in my eyes! I also like the simple lines of the second best patterns which is a white blouse with an unusual kimonoesc closure in front. Simple but nothing you could buy at H&M right now. This is also what I love about the best pattern, the seamlines are very unusual yet figure flattering. I can also the see the shortened version (a skirt) on women with curves. Maybe I will buy the magazine for this pattern...

Now to the bad and ugly... Burda, what are you thinking? There are so many flattering cuts for vests, why do you choose the fringy and furry boxcuts? This pattern can only be used for "karneval" or halloween, dressing up as a caveman! And while I dig unusal lines on a piece, I can't imagine any looking good in the second worst pattern. It reduces bust and hides a small waist, adding even mor flutter to upper arms, which most women tend to hide... The only worse pattern is the jodphur pants. Looks like McHammer traveled back to the 70s. Ugh!

Summer cinema part two

This week I went to see "Percy Jackson and the olympians" in the open air cinema in Landschaftspark Nord, Duisburg. I love the location and the movie was actually better than I expected. I guess it will soon be available on DVD as it was shown in normal cinemas some month ago. Go see it!

Afterwards we went for a little stroll in the park. This time I rembered to bring my cam and gorillapad, so we were able to take some sharp pictures of the lights in the industrial buildings. It is so beautiful there, I hope I get to visit the park once more with a little more time...

Meraluna last part

So what did we do during Meraluna? We ate

(fried garlic bread with sauce, even more fresh garlic, bell pepper creme and jalapeno)

we walked through masses of dressed up goth

we saw some great cloth

and even watched a fashion show!

(Bibian Blue corsetts, I'm already saving money to buy one!)

And of course we saw sme concerts!

Next year we won't visit Meraluna, because we already booked a hotel in Leipzig for Wave Gothic meeting! Yay!

Natron und Soda meeting on Meraluna

On the Meraluna last weekend, I did not only travel with nice company (my BF and Neisella), saw good bands but I also attended another Natron und Soda meeting! I met Fräulein Mieze for the first time as well as freakbride who lost a lash during the meeting and Marzipanik, who was hilarously funny. I already knew Rubikon, Frau Rebhuhn and Lelith but was happy to meet them again. Isn't it strange that you never get to meet these forum people from all over Germany, but once you meet you immediately reconnect? Have fun with the pictures!
Rubikon (standing) and company

freakbride with one lash already missing, but still looking good!

Neisella (in black) and Marzipanik (in green)

Meraluna 2010

Sorry for disappearing from the face of the earth for a week, but sewing for Meraluna and a move (not mine, but of a friend) kept me occupied.

So, what did I sew? A fishtail and some accessoirs for the following outfit!

The pattern for the fishtail is from my favourite sewing side and freely available, but only in german! I also sewed this neckpiece which was thought to be a neckwarmer (?) like this:

But although I ironed it, the fabric was too thick and stretchy, so it turned out to be more like a ruff:

Oh and btw; I coloured my hair in a darker shade. Nobody atwork noticed, so I think I might get gradually black. Which was my plan in the beginning! ^^

Money makes the world go round - money monday

A new feature I would like to adopt from My Pretty Pennies is the money monday, where she asks five questions which the participants have to answer! This weeks questions are:

1. The most I’ve spent this last week was on Mera Luna tickets (A festival).

2. Today I feel good about money.

3. Money can’t buy happiness. One free/inexpensive thing I did last week that made me happy was meeting with friends for cooking and movies.

4. I will consider this week a success if I get my outfits for the festival ready!

5. Would you rather own a lake house, a beach house, or a mountain house? A lake house because I like swimming, but at the sea the water is either too cold or the weather too hot...

We gonna party like its your birthday...

Not my birthday but a friend of mine had birthday on sunday and we dressed to the nines! I wore my finished top, the lace skirt I bought from Charly, striped tights and my lucky hat! I also wore red lipstick and black cat eye eyeliner... We were so overdressed for the party; everyone else was in jeans and T-shirt, but I don't mind. I love my boyfriend when he wears a button down and the tie I gave him last year as an anniversary present!
