Goth prejudice are so 2009

My mum and I phoned on thursday and she reminded me that we wanted to go to see a movie for a pretty long time now. Of course the movie has since been cut from the cinema's playing list. Fortunately my mum had heard from the Stieg Larson Millenium trilogy which was to be shown in Münster. She reserved tickets and we spent the most sunny and beautiful day watching three movies in a row; one of them in swedish with german subtitles...

While the movies were well executed and relatively interesting, my mum said that many interesting parts from the books were not shown in the cinema. It might be worth to wait until early 2011, when the ZDF will show the trilogy in TV in a longer and extended version. But I could get the stories without ever touching the books, so if you want to see them, just go ahead!

*disclaimer: The story is not for the faint at heart, it involves raping, killing and conspiracies*

The force strikes back!

Today my BF and I prepared some cookies for an ultimate frisbee tournament he will attend tomorrow. We prepared chocolate and white chocolate/macadamia cookie dough

heaved tablespoonfulls on the backing sheets

Communicated mentally with the cookies (or rather watched greedily how they baked)

And tried to let them cool down before "quality control"

And if you ask how I came up with that incredible title... Those were wookie cookies! But beware, the recipe provides you with more wookie than you might be able to handle...

Oogie Boogie coming over

Yesterday I finally bought more acrylic paint to finish the mural in the entrance area. I'm getting faster in finishing projects, this one took less than a month! Here is the eye candy:

Jack and Sally on a hill

Zero above a cementary

Moon over halloweentown

Oogie Boogie peeking around the corner

Full panorama (As I already told you, there is not much space so please excuse the wonky perspective!)

If you enlarge the pics with Oogie you can see a scetched tree next to him. I'm still indecisive if I should paint it or not. And I would also like to add something to Jack & Sally to make them more recognisable... Any ideas?

I promise I won't annoy you with too many posts about the gerbils any more, it's just that they are so cute that I surrender their will. Evil little manipulators... They made me do it, I swear!

Finished project #1

The first project from the sneak preview is already finished! The scrap of purple leopard fabric wanted to become the short sleeved jacket from this New Look pattern:

It has no real closure except the band around the waist and next time I sew this pattern I will improove the pattern a little by adding a facing in the back. This time I only made some pockets because I hate to carry my keys in my hand when I wear a skirt and cardi...

Let's see when I will finish the next project!

Another one bites the dust...

What do you do if you want to add a little more glamour to the entrance area, but there is not much space to work with? You set up a candleholder of course!

And because of the space issue, it has to be a very flat one:

By the way, the candleholder is straight, it looks skewed because of the angle I have to take pictures! I had a hard time taking the pics from 90cm right at the other wall...

Sneak preview

This is a small preview of what I plan to sew this week. It might extended as I have some time of my job from thursday to wednesday next week... :)

Best use for leftover pattern paper, ever!

See what I did with my rests of paper, after cutting out one of the big five patterns?

They love patterns as much as I do...

Natron und Soda CT - for real!

Today I went to a community meeting of my favourite sewing forum (actually on of the few forums I continously read and post), the Natron und Soda Forum. It's always fun to meet the girls and talk about new projects and I found some real friends through this forum as well as leading other people to participate in it. I even prepared some muffins with a never repeatable chocolate addition:

While there were the usual gothic sewing people around (hiding from the deathly day star, as you can imagine),

many others were being creative and knitting

or even spinning in the true sence of the word!

Today we had some "famous" guests: Natron and RedRed were around and somehow caused this meeting to be earlier than expected.

While Natron was nice as usual, RedRed really lives up to his web personality...

This is what I wore to the meeting with at least half of the funders of Natron und Soda:

Shirt: H&M, cardigan: Primark, Jeggins: Accessourize!

Pullover and hairbow: Primark, blouse: H&M, skirt: hand me down from my mum, tights: Ergee

My "I wanted to go out but somehow never went" outfit. I planned to go to the stoffmarkt again, but lacked motivation first and later didn't reach anyone, who was supposed to be there... Well better luck next time!

Longsleeve: Primark, cardigan: H&M, pants: Zara

Plain old boring work wear. For the day that I didn't get off because everyone had already taken their vacation and one person was sick. Well, phds don't have much choice, hu?

Pleather jacket: New Yorker, scarf: hand me down from my mum, shirt: Primark, jeggins: C&A, boots: thrifted, bag: sewn by yours truely

On my way to the cinema were I met some colleagues to watch Iron man 2. I liked it though it was not as good as the frist part. Particularly the fights were rather short in my opinion. Hey, the guy has two improved plasma whips, it has to take longer than 5 minutes to defeat him! If you are going to see it, after the whole credits there is a hint what movie from the marvel empire will come next... ;)

Monsterville, inhabitants 2

We finished the new accomodation for the gerbils! They have alreadey moved:

On the left they have their running wheel and (hidden under their litter) a small house they are sleeping in. On the right they have a smaller second floor with a sandbath and their water and vegetable supply.

I made a little scheme of the cage because it is really hard to take pictures through the glass!

The two cuties are named killer (the black one) and Spike (in silver grey). Why those names? All my family tried to help us name them, but all those names were so clishé like Dshingis and Khan (not very original for mongolian gerbils) or twin names... So we decided that if we take something clishè we would go for a little surprise and choose names typical for dangerous dogs...

We actually plan to make a sign for the door saying "Watch out for Killer and Spike" ;)

Visiting *wollmaus*

On tuesday I grabbed my boyfriend and headed over to my friend *wollmaus* for a small barbecue. Currently it's cold as hell here in Essen, so one person had to stay close to the door to supervise the fire and the others were staying inside and were cozy... Everytime I am at *wollmaus*' place I'm jelous that she has such a large and beautiful balcony! This is truely the only thing that I miss in my flat, a place to stay outside and tan and bbq.

Doesn't this make your mouth water? And she prepared italian pasta salad with tomatoes and fresh basilikum... And we grilled some pineaple for dessert! *yummi*

While staying outside I wore one of her throws as a cape because I was freezing:

Pullover: Primark, shirt: Dorothy Perkins, skirt: hand me down from my mum, tights and scarf: C&A, red cape: *wollmaus*

It was a great evening and I'm looking forward to when she will visit me next week!

Remember my plans?

Remember the supplies for pimping that I bought two weeks ago on Stoffmarkt? I finally worked on my cardis which were lying in a basket which all bordures and laces. I even searched for the matching yarns, but than it took me a while to start with the hand sewing. While other people describe it as meditative or relaxing, I bought my sewing machine in vain hope that I would never have to sew by hand again. Well, 100 buttons and some meters of lace later, I see my attempt as failed...

So, first cardi:

General impression is good until now, I still want to do something about the sleeves (shortening? puffy sleeves?), but the lace looks good. I even made a close up, so you can see more details!

The ends are stabilised with glue so they don't rip. I only used two laces, the larger one was folded with the smaller part overlapping. I like it and plan to wear it out as soon as possible.

The other cardi did not photograph well...

But you can see the placement of the flowers and this time the pic is more colour accurate... I think about adding another flower on the left part of the neckline closer to the closure. What do you think?
